Mytylschool Gabriel in ’s-Hertogenbosch is the winner of the 2013 School construction prize.
This year’s theme of the School construction prize was “Education Quality and Connections”, with a focus on the way in which this was incorporated in the school building and the lay-out.
It was the tenth time the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science organised the School construction prize.
Mytylschool Gabriel KinderExpertiseCentrum Atlent provides integral guidance and treatment for disabled children through a collaboration between education, healthcare and convalescence in a building that encourages learning and experience.
Education and healthcare are integrated in all aspects, without functional or structural divisions. The building has a beautiful lay-out on all levels, is functional in all aspects, and has very special aesthetics, in which the architect’s signature is very present, while at the same time providing space for other uses. The building is easy to read with clear visual connections, allowing the children to find their bearings.
This special school was designed by Frencken Scholl Architecten.
Van Rossum was in charge of structural advice.
