The building at Scheldeplein is an important innovative addition to the RAI complex at the Europaplein. RAI enforces its position as an international, leading convention centre. It is highly durable and has multi functional offices/ convention centre with a restaurant.
Benthem Crouwel Architecten has developed a concept that, within the desired urban development framework, seamlessly merges into the current RAI complex and gives it a new look at the same time. The element that mostly strikes the eye is, next to the atrium at the office floors, the vertical greenhouse where city farming can be practiced. That way the building can provide its own vegetables and herbs for the restaurant.
The most durable techniques are applied in the development of the compact building. Amsterdam RAI and partners strive to achieve the Breeam-NL Excellence level.
This building at the Scheldeplein is the first project to result from the Future Spatial vision of RAI. This vision has been setup by both the RAI and the Amsterdam municipality (Zuidas Services). This gives RAI the coming decades the option to inject quality renewal and extensions at the current location, regarding high quality, more than one day, international events in Amsterdam.
