Amsterdam North gets two fabulous towers which perfectly fit in the Overhoeks area north of the IJ. Overhoeks is characterised by iconic buildings like the EYE Film Institute and the A’DAM Tower. Two more towers will be added which will enhance the skyline of Amsterdam. The Congress hotel will be one of the biggest in Europe and will become the worldwide flagship of Maritim Hotels.
The design of the ‘Overhoeks Congress hotel and residential towers’ comprises two striking towers; one 110m high (hotel tower) and the other 100 m high (residential tower). The Congress centre and wellness centre will be located in the four-story plinth, with a two-story split-level parking garage underneath it. The top floors of the hotel tower will host a sky bar, among other things, with a fabulous view over Amsterdam as you might expect.
From a technical point of view the integration of the different functions alongside, beneath and above each other represented a challenge. On the roof of the Congress halls, with free spans of up to 40 m, a roof garden will be created for the use of hotel guests and visitors to the wellness centre.
Another challenge was the construction of the Congress halls. They have to be placed standalone between both towers in the interests of the prevention of noise nuisance. Since the halls are projected to slide partly underneath the towers, constructive solutions are required which have to be integrated with all parties.
The residential tower will comprise apartments varying from 50 to 300 m2. All apartments have their own external space, naturally with a beautiful view over the city.
